Lord, Give Me This Mountain!
“Joshua blessed Caleb, and gave the Mountain of Hebron to him…” Joshua 14:13
Bob Foster, founder of Lost Valley Ranch in Colorado, has been the recipient of the prestigious AAA Four Diamond award for almost 40 consecutive years. He has written a monthly business letter which I have been receiving since college. In 2002, the largest forest fire in Colorado history had a devastating impact on this working guest ranch. Bob determined to rebuild it and reopen.
Caleb was an inspiration for his life and here are some of Bob’s thoughts regarding Caleb:
The Promised Land is to be divided by allotment. The twelve tribes were to get their real estate. Caleb at 85 years of age stands before his buddy, Joshua, the Commander-in Chief, and reports for duty.
“I’m as strong now as I was when Moses sent us on that journey, and I can still travel and fight as well as I could then. So I’m asking that you give me that mountain which the Lord promised me…” Joshua 14:8-15. Caleb got his mountain.
Six times it’s recorded that Caleb “wholly followed the Lord”. God said it three times. (Numbers 14:24, Deuteronomy 1:36, Joshua 14:14). Moses and Joshua also said it. (Numbers 32:12, Joshua 14:14). Caleb acknowledged it himself. (Joshua 14:8). Caleb made a decisive moral choice that involved faith, courage, and a definite course of action.
God has called each of us to unique spheres of influence in commerce, community, and culture here in the Puget Sound, posing some incredible challenges, strongholds, and giants.
God is looking for “Calebs” today to rout some giants and claim some mountain strongholds for Himself. “Lord, help me follow you completely and give me my mountain.”
